I'm sorry to say that over the next seven years she gradually grew feeble and lapsed into a coma during her sleep sometime in the early morning of Decemand was never able to return to us and passed away a few days later, just short of her 97th birthday. Normally my mom would not be interested in such games but to my great surprise she responded "Heaven's Gate." I have no idea from where she got that or why she thought of that. With a flair for the grandiose, I decorated the house with a Swiss theme and named the rooms things like "Zurich" and "Boerne" and "The Matterhorn Room." Just on a whim I asked my mom what she wanted to call her apartment. My mom was getting older (she was 90) and we moved her into a nice apartment above the garage. In 2014, at the age of 52 and after 25 years of marriage, I bought my first house. I especially loved the interpretations based on respective personal life experiences, and I found some coincidental overlap with events in my own life. Oftentimes I am rewarded, other times I find a vacuous desert, but this one is a gold mine! Larry Brown from Houston, TxAwesome, this is the most fun, interesting, and intelligent comment thread I've ever read! I always read the comment thread on every Youtube video i watch, hoping to find entertaining, enlightening, and/or intelligent conversation.May we all wind up on the road paved in gold, meeting up with family and friends we lost along the way. 12 years since I lost my father, and the pain is still very real. May the couple really be in paradise and may the family heal from the pain of their loss. It is a beautiful interpretation/tribute. Short google search later, I found this thread. It came on my radio today and I think to myself 'Wow, how could anyone just run off on their kids when they're sleeping? I wonder if there is anything posted about the meaning behind the song'. As I got a little older, I realized it was about death but didn't pay much attention to the lyrics and then I hadn't heard it for many years after. I pictured a little me waking up and not knowing where my brothers and sisters ran off to that day. I thought it was THE children not THEIR children. Maybe because I had so many older siblings, I didn't register that "the children woke up and they couldn't find them" would mean THEIR kids. When I listened to it, I thought it was about a group of teenagers running off having the time of their lives.
